STRADIVOX 1931
Laberte et Magnie
Mirecourt - Vosges

FRANCE

The Stradivox gramophone (From Stradivarius) 1931. Made in Laberte and Magnie factories at Mirecourt in the Vosges, France. - Founded in 1780 - Manufacturers were violin makers from father to son for generations. They made violins, mandolins, cellos and other musical instruments with tone wood (for violin makers) at high resonance. They were rare species, maple and mainly spruce. In the 1930s, there had the great depression created unemployment and a worldwide economy crisis. Mr. Magnie has had a luminous idea of creating luxury Gramophones with wood for violin making. It was a success of the perfection because of the wood used. Moreover, these gramophones were manufactured to rules of the violin makers. Elegant, well-rounded, seamless, they are sheathed in imitation leather of different colors: Havana, burgundy, blue black ... All gramophones were delivered with a waterproof cover and laced handle cover. The sound is perfect and the amplification very harmonic. These are probably the portable gramophones best made at the time. All are signed by the hand of Mr. Magnie on the table platinum and on the large internal wood horn (not metal!) A "Dual" motor large performance powered by an assembly of spring using the crank. The premium as one of the series A1 and Numbered 83 has a hybrid motor, mechanical and power (110 to 230 Volts) with an automatic brake on the motor. This model of Stradivox gramophone won the grand price of the Colonial Exhibition of Paris in 1931 as indicated on the label on the box. The other label of the brand is also signed by hand by Mr. Magnie. None of gramophones Stradivox is a serial device. All are unique, totally manufactured by the same craftsman and initialed by the hand of Mr. Magnie himself. The Laberte and Magnie Company was in Mirecourt in the Vosges and had a deposit in Paris: Baillie, 226 rue de Tobias. These units were exported all over the world. But given what little quantity were made, these items are very rare Museum pieces, especially in perfect condition like mine.
